Our Charity Partner

Mercure Edinburgh City, Princes Street Hotel Supports Rays of Sunshine

Mercure Edinburgh City, Princes Street Hotel are delighted to announce their new charity partner this year is Rays of Sunshine,, a UK registered children’s charity that brightens the lives of seriously ill children aged 3 to 18 by granting their wishes, granting hospital ward wishes and organising large scale events.

Our aim is to raise £2000 in the first year of the partnership to fund magical wishes for brave and deserving children and to do that WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Every day of the year Rays of Sunshine gives brave and deserving young people the chance to put their illness on hold and enjoy a moment of escape. Over 6,000 individual wishes have been granted since the charity was set up in 2003. Wishes can be as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a princess or a fireman for the day, go to Disneyland in Paris, visit Santa in Lapland, own an iPad, meet a favourite celebrity or even a ‘real life’ mermaid, Rays of Sunshine works hard to make that wish come true.

Rays of Sunshine also grants ward wishes, which offer a distraction to hundreds of children during their time in hospital or a hospice. Events and outings are held throughout the year for large groups of seriously ill children including trips to theme parks, hospital activity/pamper days and parties.

We hope you will all GET INVOLVED and support our partnership so we can reach our £2000 target and grant magical wishes for brave and deserving children.  Please ask at reception about how you can support our partnership.

Tyhe team at mercure edinburgh city on their charity sponsored cycle

The team here at Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel is very close knit, which is why our famous hospitality is second to none.

We have a dedicated charity leader, Paula Black, who organises and coordinates all our fundraising activities. She puts together a fantastic fundraising calendar every year so we have regular events planned throughout the year to support our chosen charity..

Each year in August the team get together for a cycle relay on a static bike on Princes Street, just outside the hotel!

We’ve cycled the equivalent distance from our hotel in Edinburgh to the Jupiter Hotels head office in High Wycombe and last year we completed the distance around the Scottish hotels as far north to Inverness and west to Ayr.

We also run a variety of fundraising activities throughout the year, from staff quizzes, sweepstakes, bake sales, sponsored walks and runs, through to our customers kindly donating £1 to use the cloakroom during the Christmas party season.

Everyone gets involved in some way and that’s what makes the difference – it’s a real team effort. Last year the Mercure Edinburgh Princes Street Hotel raised £3,827.37, with the Jupiter Hotels group collectively raising an amazing £50,000.

We commissioned a local photographer to take photos of the local area and the images chosen were of Cramond island walk, the iconic Forth Road Bridge and Roslin Glen.

We’re sure you’ll like them as much as we do.
